A mare with her relatively young offspring . This image depicts motherly love in action. She is very protective of her foal as when I got a little near she shied away from me and shows a protective nature, shielding her young one from any unwanted attention.
Horse are a big part of Irish countryside and even though workhorses have been replaced by Tractors and machinery , they are still a big interest for a lot of people.
Horses arrived in Ireland long before it became an island. The Asian steppes is where the horse actually originated and the travelled in migration west across Europe, reaching Ireland by a land bridge that had connected France with England and then via another land bridge from Scotland to Northern Ireland !
Remains found in certain areas of Ireland indicate that the horse was domesticated well before 2000 B.C.
